I read in USA Today that the Hilton Hotel Chain had a credit card breach dating back as far as November 2014. Some of their other properties also hit include Embassy Suites, Doubletree, Hampton Inn and Suites, and Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts. The breach apparently was identified to have been in the restaurants, bars, and gift shops of these hotels. Hilton claims their reservation system was not affected.  I  agree the hotel advisory group that you carefully review your credit card statements for any unusual activity and notify your bank immediately, if you have stayed at any one of these hotels in the past year.  The sad thing is that they don’t have an immediate fix and the breach could be ongoing.

Because of the Hilton name, there have been numerous comments….mostly humorous,  except examples like this:

Anonymous ………… I have had credit cards compromised and have never been asked by the card company to pay anything. They have shouldered it all.

“NOT ANY MORE!” Starting October 1st, 2015 these lost, stolen, fraudulent charges will no longer be shouldered by the Issuers (Issuer, financial institution name on credit card). These will now be sent back to the Merchant that accepted the card, if the Merchant is not utilizing the new EMV (European Master Card and Visa) process which includes pin and chip recognition.

I sell high ticket security systems to residential and commercial businesses. Since security is my priority, I’ve decided to protect myself and my business by using the Clover Mobile. Not only am I accepting EMV cards with a pin and chip reader, Clover allows me to manage my inventory and provide my clients with a secure encrypted credit card transaction. It also accepts Apple Pay!

I suggest you protect yourself. Make sure you are using pin and chip Point of Sale devices in your business.
